Stay Out Of Dog Park In Silverton Until It Opens: Toms River Mayor
Someone damaged the gate forcing their way in, and a dog was injured in the as-yet unfinished park, officials said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ ? After reports of vandalism and an injury to at least one dog, Toms River has a message for dog owners eager to let their canine friends run free at the township's new dog park: Sit. Stay.
The new dog park on Maine Street in the Silverton section is scheduled to open Nov. 1, Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill said Monday.
Right now, however, the park is not safe for dogs to be let loose in, officials said.

Someone damaged the gates, bending the latches by kicking them open to force their way into the locked park, officials said. They did not specify what happened to the dog that was injured.
Crews are continuing to work on the grounds, benches have yet to be installed and the sod and grass seed needs time to take, officials said.

"We ask that dog-loving residents be patient just a couple of weeks longer," Hill said. "While the dog park looks ready and inviting, there is still work to be done. For the safety of your dogs and the enjoyment of all, please let the crew finish the job before using the dog park."
The Township Council is expected to consider a proposed ordinance that will set rules for the use of the park to ensure the safety of those who come out to let their pups loose. The ordinance was introduced at the Sept. 28 meeting and is awaiting a final reading and vote. Read more: Dog Park Rules Proposed In Toms River
