Storm Leaves Toms River With More Snow, Icy Roads
Toms River closed its township offices early on Thursday because of the hazardous driving created by the storm.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Snow and a lot of icy precipitation made a mess of the roads in Toms River on Thursday, and the effects of the storm were lingering into Friday.
Toms River sent out its plows as the snow was falling, and closed the township’s offices shortly after noon because of the hazardous driving.
The Toms River Office of Emergency Management warned about the unsafe conditions, which were expected to linger into Friday morning.

Toms River received more than 4 inches of snow. An early report at about 12:15 p.m. to the National Weather Service reported 2 inches, but the snow continued for a few hours after that report. Seaside Heights had received 3 inches of snow as of about 3:15 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
While the township worked on the roads, the sleet and freezing rain made the roads hazardous, and with temperatures dropping overnight, the Toms River Regional Schools announced its staff would be working remotely on Friday. The district’s classes are remote on Fridays so students were not scheduled to be transported.

Statewide, New Jersey State Police said they responded to more than 400 crashes and assisted more than 270 motorists by 3 p.m. because of the hazardous conditions on the state’s roads.
