Officer injured in crash now recovering after surgeries
An Island Heights woman has been issued a traffic summons in connection with a Toms River crash that seriously injured an off-duty police officer.
Mary Padovano, 56, was issued the summons for careless driving in the crash that injured off-duty Island Heights police officer Tim Geoghegan, 26, of Toms River.
In the accident which occurred last Thursday, police say Geoghegan's Jeep was broadsided by Padovano's Subaru, causing the Jeep to overturn. The crash happened at the intersection of Larch Drive and Oakhill Drive.
Geoghegan had the right of way and Padovano had a stop sign, police spokesman Ralph Stocco said at the time.
Geoghegan was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by medevac helicopter for treatment of his injuries and had been listed in critical condition.
On Wednesday, Stocco said Geoghegan is now listed in serious condition after undergoing several surgeries.
