Toms River 8-10 Softball Team Playing In Little League Region Tourney

TOMS RIVER, NJ ? The Toms River Little League 8- to 10-year-old softball All-Stars are trying to make their summer on the basepaths stretch a little longer.

The team, which won the New Jersey state championship last week, is playing in the Little League Eastern Regional tournament in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, just south of Wilkes-Barre.

The girls won their elimination game on Tuesday, beating Vermont, 4-1. The team lost its Eastern Regional opener to Delaware on Monday, 4-0.

Toms River plays at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday against Massachusetts in an elimination game.

The Toms River Little League softball program is a combined effort of the Toms River Little League and the Toms River East Little League; the softball program is in its second season.
