Toms River Board of Education

Who will the next superintendent be?

Are you listening?
Are you listening? (Jeff Nischwitz)

To the Toms River Regional School District Communities of Beachwood, Pine Beach, South Toms River and Toms River,

A few months ago, the Toms River Regional School District's Board of Education held an open forum (via call in) for community stakeholders to contribute to the hiring process of the new superintendent. YOU, our community stakeholders, provided input and feedback. The community stated EXACTLY what they wanted in a superintendent. The community expressed a clear vision about our local school district. Not one community stakeholder stated they wanted to hire a superintendent based on a personal, political agenda. NOT ONE.

The Community, YOU, unanimously told the Board of Education that we wanted our new superintendent from within our school community. We wanted someone that climbed through the ranks within our school district. We wanted someone homegrown. We wanted someone that was well aware of our funding situation. We wanted one of our own. We wanted someone that would step in seamlessly.

It's time to, perhaps, remind certain board members of that message.

By hiring someone outside of our local school district, it sends a strong message that Toms River Regional School District doesn't produce leaders from within. The Board of Education is making the statement that out of 3,000 plus employees, not one employee is qualified enough to step into the position of Toms River Superintendent of Schools? #ludicrous

Our local Board of Education are members of the community. They are unpaid by the school district and volunteer countless hours. Every. Single. Board Member should act in the BEST INTEREST of OUR CHILDREN, not in the best interest of local politics or personal agendas. Remember it's a non-partisan position. If you're into politics, then run for a seat on the town council.

NEWSFLASH! Political agendas have no place within our local school board.

A few weeks ago, news broke that a Toms River Councilman influenced and interfered in the process of hiring our new superintendent. The integrity and character of some of our sitting board members is questionable. The relationship between some BOE members and said councilman is also questionable.

REMINDER: Members of the Toms River Board of Education (and every other local school board) are to act in an ethical, legal manner. Members of the BOE are to always act in the best interest of the children. Members of the BOE should listen to their constituents. Members of the BOE should leave personal and political agendas at the front door. Understand?

Community Stakeholders, please send an email to our Board of Education and remind them that they represent OUR children and not their political agendas.
