Toms River Council Republican Primary Election Guide

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Republican primary for the four ward seats on the Toms River Township Council is heating up as the primary election nears on June 8.

There are two slates of candidates for the Republican nominations for the four wards. You can read the candidates' profiles below.

Incumbent Maria Maruca (Ward 1) is joined by Jason Crispin (Ward 2), James J. Quinlisk (Ward 3), and David J. Ciccozzi (Ward 4) under the banner of the Regular Republican Club of Ocean County. They are opposed by incumbent Daniel Rodrick (Ward 2), Justin Lamb (Ward 1), Grace Piscopo (Ward 3) and John J. Loiacono (Ward 4), who are running under the "Make New Jersey Great Again" banner.

Maruca is seeking reelection to her fifth term. Rodrick, who was elected in 2017 as a Democrat but later changed his party affiliation, is seeking his second term. Their running mates all are newcomers.

How To Vote In The 2021 Primary Election

In-person voting: Yes, you can vote in person in the June 8 primary election. Voters may vote in person at their assigned polling place. To locate a polling location, click here.

Those who receive a vote-by-mail ballot but do not return their ballot may still vote in person with a provisional ballot at their assigned polling place.

Vote by mail: Those who wish to vote from home can use the Vote-by-Mail option. To receive a mail-in ballot, voters must request one in writing by filling out a mail-in ballot application. A personal signature is required. The County Clerk's office at 118 Washington St. in Toms River must receive mail-in ballot applications by mail no later than June 1 for the primary election.

Voters may apply for a mail-in ballot in person or by authorized messenger at the County Clerk's Office in Toms River up to 3 p.m. on June 7.

Voters can choose one of the following options to return their ballot:

• Mail the ballot through the United States Postal Service. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked on or before 8 p.m. on Election Day, June 8.
• Drop the ballot in a designated Ocean County Board of Elections drop box before 8 p.m. June 8. There are 19 locations.

Drop boxes are maintained by the Ocean County Board of Elections, are secure, and monitored by video surveillance. Ballots are collected from drop boxes regularly.

Deadlines: The deadline to register for the primary election has passed (May 18). The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail is June 1. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot in person is 3 p.m. June 7.
