Toms River Police National Night Out Aims To Build Unity, Community

The event in Huddy Park will be a chance to better get to know the police and learn about other cultures and people.

TOMS RIVER, NJ ? The Toms River Police Department is inviting residents to spend time getting to know their officers as well as learn a little bit about some of the many cultures that make up the township's residents at the 2022 National Night Out event.

National Night Out is set for Aug. 2, and Toms River's community event will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Huddy Park in downtown Toms River.

National Night Out began in the 1980s as a way to show community unity against crime, and has become an annual event across the nation in the four decades since.

The Toms River celebration also features TR UNITED Around the World, which includes displays about the various cultures.

TR UNITED ? Uniting Neighbors In Town Every Day ? was created by Toms River Police Chief Mitchell Little in 2018 to promote understanding and foster a sense of community.

"National Night Out is a great community event that gives us the opportunity to spend quality time with the residents we serve," the police department said in a Facebook post. "It will be a night to celebrate our community, family, and friends."

There will be lots of first responder displays, face-painting, games, food trucks, prizes, and DJ Tony Tunes playing music. The new Mobile Sensory Room will be at the event as well.

The event is free and prizes available while supplies last.
