Toms River School Board Election: See Who's Running In 2022

There are three town-specific seats in the regional district up for election in November, one each in Beachwood, Pine Beach and Toms River.

TOMS RIVER, NJ ? Three seats are up for election in November on the Toms River Regional Board of Education, representing three of the towns in the regional district.

All three races for the three-year volunteer unpaid seats are contested.

In the race for the Toms River seat, incumbent board member Kathleen Eagan is being challenged by Daynne Glover.

Eagan was a longtime teacher in the district and the president of the Toms River Education Association while she was working for the district.

Glover, who has two children in the district and is running under the "For Every Child" slogan, ran in 2020 as a candidate for one of the board's at-large seats. She is a Toms River schools graduate and works with nonprofit organizations that promote early childhood development.

In the race for the seat representing Beachwood, there are three candidates: Lisa Magovern, running under the "Our Children First" slogan; Melissa P. Morrison, under the "For Our Children" slogan, and Reuven Hendler, under the "Better Education" slogan.

The Beachwood seat currently is held by Alex Mizenko, who is not seeking re-election.

Magovern has children who are students in the district and a degree in urban studies/education.

Morrison is a teacher in another district and has a child in the district. She is a frequent speaker at Toms River Regional school board meetings.

Hendler ran in the Democratic primary in June challenging Andy Kim in the 3rd Congressional District, though the 3rd District will no longer include Ocean County beginning in January because of redistricting.

In Pine Beach, incumbent Kevin Kidney is seeking re-election and is being challenged by Arley Kuehl, who is running under the "Kuehl for School" slogan, and by Jessica M. Jablonski, who is running under the "Education is Key" slogan.

Kidney is a teacher in another district.

Kuehl is an artist and educator who has been working as a substitute teacher since 2015 and graduated in May from Stockton University with a degree in art education.

Jablonski is a teacher in another district and has two children in the Toms River schools.

The Toms River Regional Board of Education has nine members, six from Toms River and one each from the other three towns in the district: Beachwood, Pine Beach, and South Toms River.
