Toms River Schools Shift To Virtual Day Amid Nor'easter
The district announced the move in part as a result of Gov. Phil Murphy's declaration of a state of emergency.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — Students and staff in the Toms River Regional School District will have a fully virtual school day on Thursday as a result of Wednesday's nor'easter, the school district announced.
All buildings in the district will be closed and students "should adhere to their school’s four-hour, hybrid learning bell schedule," the district announcement said.
The forecast for the Toms River area is for less than an inch of snow, but for other parts of the state the estimate is 12 to 18 inches. Coastal flooding is expected around the high tide Wednesday evening and into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow accumulation and the threat of strong winds prompted Gov. Phil Murphy to declare a state of emergency in New Jersey, which the district took into account in deciding to shift to virtual classes Thursday.
District staff also will work remotely, the announcement said.
Fridays are virtual every week, so that will go forward as usual, the district said.
