Toms River Senior Center Reopens To Activities With Changes

The senior center shut down its in-person activities in March as the coronavirus outbreak was worsening.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — When the Toms River Senior Center reopens its indoor activities in July after a nearly four-month shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, there will be a number of changes to its schedules and procedures.

The center, at 652 Garfield Ave., is scheduled to reopen for indoor activities on a limited, basis starting July 6. Outdoor bocce will continue on Wednesday mornings.

Social distancing protocols including wearing masks will be enforced for all indoor and outdoor activities. Group limits are based on room size and will be observed.

Township officials said some classes will be split into smaller groups and offered at different times to accommodate everyone who's interested. The Senior Center staff is calling participants to set up the new schedules.

All members will be required to use their membership cards to swipe in because attendance must be recorded.

The Senior Center staff is available by phone 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for help with Senior benefit issues and screenings, New Jersey Property Tax Reimbursement booklets, and for Senior Beach badges.

Fruit and vegetable vouchers will be available starting July 10 with proof of age, residency, and income. All walk-ins must wear masks and observe social distancing protocols.
