Toms River Veterans Groups Hosting Memorial Day Service

American Legion Post 129 and the Toms River Elks will honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military over Memorial Day weekend.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River's veterans organizations will host a Memorial Day ceremony on May 29 to remember those who gave their lives in military service to the United States.

Last year the Memorial Day ceremony was held at Toms River's Town Hall but the annual parade was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, there will be a ceremony on May 29 at the Toms River Elks Lodge 1875, 600 Washington St., Toms River.

The ceremony starts at 12:30 p.m. and will be led by veterans from George P. Vanderveer American Legion Post 129 of Toms River.

Following the ceremony, there will be a pig roast and barbecue at the American Legion Post 129 property at 2025 Church Road.

The barbecue and pig roast is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to the public. Tickets first come, first served and are $20 for adults in advance, $25 at the door. Children under 12 $10.

The barbecue includes hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecued chicken, salads, baked beans and the pig roast. Beverages are included. Music will be by the band Katfish Lucy.

The raindate is Sunday, May 30.

The event will follow COVID-19 guidelines in effect at the time of the event; as of May 19, outdoor events have no maximum attendance and masks are not required outdoors but are encouraged if social distancing is not possible
