Toms River's Tutzauer Helps Cabrini Soccer To Conference Crown

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River resident has played a key role in helpin the Cabrini women's soccer team win the 2019 Atlantic East Conference championship and move to the next round of the postseason, the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

Ashley Tutzauer, a junior goalkeeper and a 2017 graduate of Toms River High School North, has recorded a .64 goals-against average in 2019, and has allowed 12 goals while making 52 saves for the Cavaliers, who have recorded six straight shutouts.

Tutzauer has recorded 525:26 scoreless minutes over Cabrini's last six games and has not given up a goal since a 2-1 loss to Wesley on Oct. 16. The Cavaliers avenged that loss with a 2-0 win in the semifinals of the Atlantic East tournament.

For her career, Tutzauer has a .987 goals-against average, with 37 goals allowed over 3372:56 minutes. She has 115 saves, with a .757 save percentage over her three years in net for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers have been stingy on defense, allowing an average of 7.65 shots per game, with 3.4 shots on goal. In the three games in the Atlantic East tournament, they allowed 24 shots, with just 7 on goal, including shutting down the Wesley offense completely in a 2-0 win in the semifinal.

On Saturday morning, the Cavaliers are in Springfield, Massachusetts, taking on Springfield in the opening round of the ECAC tournament. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and can be watched online through a link on the Cabrini schedule.

The Atlantic East Conference title is Cabrini's first but its 11th conference title overall. The Cavaliers won the Colonial States Athletic Conference title in 2017, and helped form the Atlantic East Conference before the 2018 school year.
