UPDATE: Speed Restrictions, Accidents, Ice On New Jersey Roads In Friday Commute
The National Weather Service alert says more snow expected to fall Friday, while other areas face freezing rain, 5 below wind-chill.

It’s worse than snow. It’s black ice.
The cold, the snow and the ensuing ice made for messy roads, impacting the Friday commute.
The National Weather Service issued a “Special Weather Statement,” light snow were forecast for the overnight hours before tapering to snow showers on Friday morning. An accumulation of around an inch is anticipated, but much of what could be leftover is ice.

“If you will be going out tonight or Friday morning, use extra caution. be prepared for slippery conditions on area roads, walkways and parking lots.” according to the National Weather Service.

- There was a 45-mph speed restriction on the Garden State Parkway in both directions from north of Exit 105 to the New York state line
- There was a 35-mph speed restriction on the Outerbridge Crossing and Goethals Bridge in both directions between Staten Island and the New Jersey side in Perth Amboy.
- As of 9:39 a.m., there was a disabled tractor trailer on I-280 westbound west of Exit 9
- As of 9:23 a.m., there was an accident on the Garden State Parkway northbound north of Exit 153A in Clifton. Left lane blocked.
- As of 9:14am, there was an accident on the Garden State Parkway northbound north of Exit 153A in Clifton. Left lane blocked.
- As of 9:08 a.m., there was a vehicle fire on the New Jersey Turnpike, Grover Cleveland Service Area in Woodbridge.
A Hazardous Weather Outlook was also issued, saying blustery winter winds, freezing temperatures, and some accumulation that hit New Jersey on Friday could hit again on Monday.
Winds could pick up to more than 20 mph on Friday, while wind-chills will drop to zero or even 5-below across the state, according to the National Weather Service.
According to AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologists Alex Sosnowski, “For the coastal mid-Atlantic, the system will generally bring snow showers and a spotty coating of snow.”
Even light accumulations, however, could cause travel delays for airports in the United States, for Detroit; Pittsburgh, Boston and New York City.
The South Brunswick police issued a warning, saying a clipper system will come into the region Thursday night from the Midwest and “our best threat of a period of snow from this is the 7 p.m. - 12 a.m. time frame.
“While certainly not snowing the entire night, we can still see snow shower activity into the pre-dawn/early a.m. hours. Minor snow accumulations likely the result,” the alert said.

The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of more snow Sunday night into Monday. It’s still too early for possible totals or whether the second storm will even make it to New Jersey.
Here are projected weather forecasts by area, so you can see just how much is expected in parts of the state, according to the NWS:
North New Jersey
- Bergen County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 70 percent chance of snow Friday.
- Morris County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 50 percent chance of snow Friday.
- Essex County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 60 percent chance of snow Friday.
Central New Jersey
- Union County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 60 percent chance of snow Friday.
- Somerset County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 50 percent chance of snow Friday.
- Middlesex County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 50 percent chance of snow Friday.
- Monmouth County: Around 1 inch Thursday night, 50 percent chance of snow Friday.
South New Jersey
- Ocean County: Chance of freezing rain Thursday night. Wind gusts up to 40 miles-per-hour Friday, with wind chill values as low as 5 below.
- Atlantic County: Chance of snow, rain, and sleet Thursday night. Wind gusts up to 30 miles-per-hour Friday, with wind chill values as low as 5 below.
