WEATHER ALERT: Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Headed For Toms River
Doppler radar shows a line of storms moving across the state; forecasters say the rain could cause flooding in areas that drain poorly.
If you have plans this evening in Ocean County, you might want to move your activities indoors. And if you’re in an area that floods during heavy rain, take action to protect vehicles or other items, forecasters warn.
A line of thunderstorms moving across New Jersey is packing torrential rain and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, according to a special weather alert issued by the National Weather Service. Doppler radar on both the National Weather Service site and Accuweather.com shows the line of storms extending the length of New Jersey.
Strong winds with gusts of up to 40 mph are possible, the service says.

The rainfall may caused localized flooding on roads, and drivers are urged not to drive through flooded roads, the service warns.
Forecasters for Accuweather.com are saying the storm should hit the area about 5 p.m.
