Burglar Wearing Only Underwear, 1 Sock Arrested In Wayne: Police

Police say he tried to break into a home, but the homeowner recognized his picture from a news article about a prior arrest.

WAYNE, NJ — A man wearing only boxers and a single sock was arrested in Wayne after trying to break into a home in the middle of the night, police said.

Joseph V. Derissio, 21, was arrested during the early morning hours of April 15. According to police, Derissio went to a Chatham Court home around 3:30 a.m. and began banging on the door, attempting to get into the home.

The homeowner recognized Derissio from previous news coverage of Derissio's previous recent arrest, and called police, police said. Police found Derissio walking to his home from the area of a dead-end street, police said.

Derissio was taken by police to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center. He was then arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief; he was taken to the Passaic County Jail pending an upcoming court date.

Derissio was previously charged with possession of heroin and six counts of burglary to auto after allegedly breaking into the cars of six elderly residents on April 5, as Patch previously reported.
