Butler Library Distributing Free Baby Boxes

The boxes help all newborns have a safe place to sleep and a safe start to life.

BUTLER, NJ — The Butler Library is now a Baby Box distribution center, where new parents can pick up the free package for their babies.

The practice was started in Finland in the 1930s: all newborn babies get sent home with a box filled with baby supplies like diapers, clothes, baby wipes and more. The box is also a safe place for babies to sleep, and comes with a mattress.

New Jersey became first state in the nation to provide the Baby Boxes to its residents in January and now, you can pick one up near you.

To claim the free boxes, parents must log on to Baby Box University, watch a short video and take a quiz. Once earning a certificate of completion, parents can bring the certificate and email address used to puck up their free box at the library. The library asks that anyone picking up a box call ahead to make an appointment with Ms. Kristen, Ms. Arlene, Ms. Lisa, Ms. Margaret, Ms. Carolyn, or Mr. Rodriquez. The number is 973-838-3262.
