GIRLS WHO CODE STARTING FREE CLUBS AND LAUNCHING SUMMER IMMERSION PROGRAM IN NEW JERSEY

Girls Who Code, a national non-profit dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology, is expanding its network of free Clubs for girls in grades 6-12 in New Jersey. There is no cost to run a Club and no computer science experience is required to supervise the online curriculum.

Currently, less than a quarter of computing jobs are held by women. That number is declining and our organization is working to reverse the decline. Last year we reached 40,000 girls in all 50 states and we hope to reach 100,000 girls by the end of 2018 through our Clubs Program. Currently we have over 120 Clubs in New Jersey. We would love to work with many more New Jersey schools and libraries to increase the number of Clubs in New Jersey and position our state as a leader in growing computer science education and reaching girls who are historically underrepresented in computer science.

Our Clubs are free after-school programs for girls to use computer science to impact their communities and join a growing sisterhood of supportive peers and role models. They can be hosted at schools, universities, libraries, community centers, faith-based organizations, or non-profits. There is ZERO fee to start a Club.
Girls Who Code opened its application on January 16th for their free Summer Immersion Program in Newark, Hoboken and Jersey City. The deadline to apply is March 16th. Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Programs are FREE 7-week summer programs for 10th-11th grade girls to learn computer science, get exposure to tech jobs and join a supportive sisterhood of thousands of girls across the US.
In the Summer Immersion Program girls learn about: tech companies (meeting female engineers and getting inside look at tech roles in the world's top companies), project-based learning (real-world projects in art, storytelling, robotics, video games, websites and more) and sisterhood (developing lifelong friendships with a supportive, diverse community of girls.)
In addition to providing free programs in Newark, Hoboken and Jersey City this summer, Girls Who Code provides summer stipends to cover transportation and living costs for Summer Immersion Program students, available for all Summer Immersion Program applicants who qualify.
New Jersey girls in 10th and 11th grade are encouraged to apply online. The Summer Immersion Program application can be found at www.girlswhocode.com. For more information, about starting a Club or applying for the Summer Immersion Program contact Eve Balick, the New Jersey Regional Partnership Coordinator at eve.balick@girlswhocode.com.
