Jackknifed Truck Closed Rt. 287 Lanes In Kinnelon: DOT

Despite a ban on commercial traffic in the area, a jackknifed truck caused the closure of the southbound lanes Monday morning.

KINNELON, NJ — A jackknifed tractor trailer closed the southbound lanes of Route 287 in Kinnelon Monday morning, despite a ban on trucks on that part of the highway during Monday's snow storm.

The crash, which has since been cleared, happened near Exit 52 in Kinnelon, near Route 23. All lanes were closed for about an hour, and the crash was cleared around 11:20 a.m., DOT said. There are likely residual delays in the area.

Trucks are currently banned on Route 287 between Exit 21 (I-78) and the New York State Border due to severe weather.

"We are very displeased by that particular truck's ignoring of the ban, and we will take that and actions like it under consideration," Gov. Phil Murphy said during a Monday morning press conference.

The truck ban applied to all tractor-trailers, empty straight CDL-weighted trucks, passenger vehicles pulling trailers, recreational vehicles and motorcycles. It is also in effect on Route 80 between the Pennsylvania state line and Exit 43 (I-287), and Interstate 78, between the Pennsylvania state line and Exit 29 (I-287).
