Kinnelon Cancels Summer Discovery Camp Session Due To COVID-19

Coronavirus-related safety concerns have forced the Kinnelon Recreation Summer Discovery Camp to cancel its summer 2020 session.

KINNELON – Over the past 5 years, the Kinnelon Recreation Summer Discovery Camp has given its campers the opportunity to participate in exciting summer activities, while building lasting friendships. This summer, however, prospective campers will have to turn to alternative options to have similar fun-filled summer experiences.

The Kinnelon Recreation Summer Discovery Camp announced in a press release that it will not be holding a Summer 2020 camp session due to COVID-19 concerns.

This was not a decision made lightly, according to Melanie Schuckers, the camp’s recreation director. The camp consulted community leaders, the local health department, and the Kinnelon Recreation Committee, among others, in coming to this conclusion. Ultimately, concerns over camper and counselor safety prevailed.

In lieu of an in-person camp program, Kinnelon is in the planning stages of organizing other summer activity options for families. Some ideas currently being considered include “Camp to Go” boxes and other outdoor family programs; however, the final plans will be unveiled later in the summer.
