Lost Hikers, Drugs, Baby Stroller Theft: Bloomingdale PD Blotter

BLOOMINGDALE, NJ — Bloomingdale Police responded to several calls for service at the end of June, including for a stroller theft and lost hikers. Read about recent police activity, as written by police in the blotter, here:
On 6/19/19 at 08:12 hours, Ptl. Sami Zeidan responded to a residence on Main Street for a reported theft. On scene he learned from the victim that a double baby stroller which had been left in a common hallway outside the victim's apartment had been stolen. In conducting a followup investigation on 6/20/19, Ptl. Zeidan learned that a 35 year old female former tenant of the building who now resides in West Milford, had stolen the stroller. The female was charged with theft and released pending her court date. The stroller was returned to the victim.
On 6/23/19 at 01:39 hours, Ptl. Gary Walker observed a suspicious vehicle stopped in a parking lot near Hamburg Turnpike. The operator appeared to be slumped over in the driver's seat. Ptl. Walker engaged the operator and woke him. He observed signs of intoxication and after several field sobriety tests were performed, the 63 year old male from Brooklyn, NY, was arrested and transported to headquarters. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving. Unable to arrange transportation initially, the driver was housed at the Pompton Lakes Police Department for several hours until a friend could respond and take custody of the driver. His vehicle was impounded. Ptl. Antonio Calabro assisted with the arrest.

On 6/25/19 at 09:31 hours, Ptl. Sami Zeidan stopped a box truck on Main Street. After speaking to the driver, he spoke to several passengers. One of the passengers, a 28 year old male from Paterson, when asked for his name provided one that turned out to be false. Upon learning of the passenger's correct name, Ptl. Zeidan discovered that the male had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department for possession of a stolen vehicle. The male was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. Detectives from the Passaic County Sheriff's Department responded and took custody of the male who was also charged by Ptl. Zeidan with hindering apprehension. Sgt. David Terpstra assisted with the arrest.
On 6/26/19 at 20:28 hours, Ptl. Gary Walker fielded a call concerning 2 lost hikers in Norvin Green State Forest. Two females, one 27 and one 28 years old from Montclair, had contacted police advising that they were lost in the forest. The Bloomingdale Volunteer Search and Rescue Team was dispatched and responded. They were able to bring both females out of the forest. No injuries were reported.

On 6/30/19 at 15:27 hours, Ptl. Sami Zeidan stopped a motor vehicle for speeding on Hamburg Turnpike. After initially speaking with the driver, Ptl. Zeidan spoke with 2 passengers. The front seat passenger was discovered to possess a container with suspected C.D.S., specifically marijuana. Also the 28 year old male from Bronx, NY was found to have medication requiring a prescription, but not possessing such. The second passenger, 31 year old male frorm Albany, NY, was found to have a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. The driver was issued a summons for speeding and was released. Both passengers were arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. The 28 year old male was charged with possession of C.D.S., possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescribed medication. The 31 year old male was also charged with possession of C.D.S., possession of drug paraphernalia and for failing to surrender C.D.S. to law enforcement. Both were released pending their court date.
