Aug. 19: Drunk driving
At about 11:27 PM patrol officers responded to a Target parking lot for a report of an idling silver Acura RSX in the parking lot. The car had exterior damage, the lights were on, the engine was running, and the officers found a person asleep at the wheel. They tried to wake the driver, who smelled strongly of alcohol, but it was very difficult. When she finally woke up, the driver had trouble locating her paperwork. She had bloodshot and watery eyes. After some fumbling, the driver could not produce a license. She gave the officers a name and a date of birth. Curiously, the name she gave did not match the name on the credit cards among her papers. The officers gave the driver field sobriety tests and later, her blood tested 2.5 times over the legal limit for alcohol. Although the driver gave the wrong name, she was discovered to be a 42-year-old from West Milford. She was found to have a Suspended Driver's License for a previous DWI and so was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Suspended for DWI (a fourth degree crime), Resisting Arrest and Hindering Apprehension (disorderly person offenses) Summonses were issued for Driving While Intoxicated, Suspended Driver's License, Open Container in a MV, Consumption of An Alcoholic Beverage in a MV, Fail to produce documents. Charges will be heard at Morris County Central Judicial Processing.
