Aug. 22: Driving Under the Influence
Early in the morning, at about 2:30 AM, a patrolman observed a brown Jeep swerving as it traveled on Route 23 North before exiting onto Route 287 North. The Jeep then exited onto the ramp for Hamburg Turnpike. The Jeep turned left onto Hamburg Turnpike even though it was in the "right-turn" lane. Patrolmen pulled the driver over. The 34-year-old driver from Butler provided a driver's license from Maryland despite saying that he has lived in New Jersey for over two months. The strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanated from his mouth. His hand movements were slow and he fumbled with his paperwork. Field Sobriety tests were performed and then the driver was taken to headquarters. After an Alcotest exam that driver was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Expired Touring Privileges and Fail to Maintain Lane. He was released to a friend with a September court date in Riverdale.
