Report: Morris County's Rick Porcello Traded from Detroit Tigers to Boston Red Sox

Chester Twp. native dealt for outfielder during busy winter meetings session.

One of Morris County’s native sons is going to be a little closer to home in 2015.

Rick Porcello, of Chester Township, has been traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Boston Red Sox, according to Fox Sports CJ Nitkowski.

Porcello was drafted by Detroit in 2007 as a high school pitcher at Seton Hall Prep. During his major league career the right-hander has amassed a 76-63 record with a 4.3 earned run average in 184 games.

The Tigers traded the 25-year-old for Boston outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, Nitkowski reported. The deal is pending both players pass physicals.

Porcello had one of the best seasons of his career in 2014, with 15 wins and 13 losses and a 3.43 ERA with three complete-game shutouts. He also pitched more than 204 innings, the most of any single season in his career.
