Roy Miller, 'Mr. Baseball' Dies at 90

Mary Ponomarev, 91, of Butler, also died recently.

Roy Miller, 90, of Kinnelon died Sunday, Nov. 3.

He was born in Butler. He worked for Sam Braen Inc. in Riverdale for 29 years and was a foreman. After retiring, he worked for Bill Pluymer as a surveyor in the Tri-Boro area.

Miller had a real passion for baseball. He was a pitcher at Butler High School and trained in the minor leagues in Pennsylvania. Throughout his lifetime he was known as “Mr. Baseball.”

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife Claudine and his sister Doris O’Donnell.

He is survived by his daughter Donna Lee Nestico and her husband Tony, his sister Hilda Destito, seven nieces and nephews, eight grand nieces and nephews, and four great grand nieces and nephews.

Mary Ponomarev, 91, of Butler, died Oct. 31.

She was born in Cranston, R.I. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Stefan; her children Charles Costa, Patricia, Stefan, and Raymond; her sister, Edie Marandola; and two grandsons.
