Shoplifting, Crash With Fluid Leaks: Bloomingdale Police Blotter

BLOOMINGDALE, NJ — Bloomingdale police responded to three incidents between March 19 and March 27, including a for a crash with fluid leaks. Read about recent police activity, as written by police, here:

On 3/19/19 at 08:41 hours, Ptl. Sami Zeidan stopped a motor vehicle on Main Street. In speaking to the driver, Leiton Duarte-Rodriguez (23) of Hackensack, Ptl. Zeidan observed signs of C.D.S. usage. A search of the vehicle yielded a small amount of suspected marijuana along with items used to ingest such. Duarte-Rodiguez was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of C.D.S., possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of C.D.S. in a motor vehicle. Also he was issued a summons for being an unlicensed driver and driving an unregistered vehicle. The vehicle was impounded. He was released pending his court date. Sgt. David Terpstra assisted with the arrest.

In dealing with a report of shoplifting from a local business on Hamburg Turnpike, Ptl. Sami Zeidan discovered in reviewing video tape that 2 different incidents involving 2 different suspects had occurred. Following the investigation, Jennifer Mathews (44) of Bloomingdale was arrested on 3/27/19 and charged with shoplifting for stealing 2 items from the store valued at $4.04. Also on 3/28/19 Thomas Walsh (24) of West Milford was arrested for shoplifting for stealing an item valued at $5.32. Both Mathews and Walsh were released pending their court dates.

On 3/27/19 at 18:40 hours, Ptl. Michael Fatzer responded to a motor vehicle accident on Hamburg Turnpike which included airbag deployment. On scene Ptl. Fatzer found that a 45 year old male from Kinnelon was traveling west on Hamburg Turnpike when a vehicle driven by a 63 year old female from Bloomingdale which had been in the eastbound lane attempted to make a left turn crossing into the westbound lane and causing the collision. The driver of the 2nd vehicle complained of pain in chest and back and was transported to Chilton Hospital by the Tri Boro First Aid Squad. The Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted with the clean up of fluids leaked from the vehicles. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
