Man Dies In Reportedly Wild Police Chase In Bloomingdale: Police
One person died in a police-involved shooting: A school was locked down after shots were reportedly fired at a police car, authorities said.
BLOOMINGDALE – One person died in a police-involved shooting during a wild chase on Thursday, authorities said.
The Attorney General’s Shooting Response Task Force says it's conducting an investigation of the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday morning in Bloomingdale. One man, Michael J. Rivera, 32, of Newark, suffered fatal injuries, the Office of Attorney General said.
The shooting occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Mathews Drive in Bloomingdale when police were pursuing a car driven by Rivera following a theft in Riverdale, according to the OAG.

Immediately before the shooting, police cars from Bloomingdale and Riverdale were in pursuit of the car, which ultimately turned into a dead end at Mathews Drive, the OAG said.
Rivera turned the car around and confronted a police vehicle. The police car was stopped in front of Rivera’s car and the officer was attempting to exit the vehicle when Rivera drove the car forward, ramming and pinning the officer’s leg, the OAG said.

During the encounter, the officer fired multiple shots and wounded Rivera. Police administered first aid and CPR and transported Rivera to Chilton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the OAG said.
The officer suffered a leg injury. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and later released.
