Student Representative Gives Historic Report

Casey Mefford became the first student at Butler High School to report to the Board of Education at a public meeting Monday.
Mefford, a senior, is the student representative to the Board of Education. She serves on the Executive Committee of the high school's Student Council. She served in the positive last year but never gave a report to the Board, until this week.
"I think it's great that people will hear what's going on in the high school from a student directly," Mefford said Monday morning. 
The position Mefford holds existed in previous school years and the student served on the Student Council's Executive Committee. However, the student never gave a report to the Board until Monday night.
"It's more important of us to tell the Board exactly what is going on and what we'd like to change," Mefford said. 
Lisa Reda, a Psychology teacher and the faculty advisor to the Student Council, said the timing is right for the appointment to occur.
"It's time that the people get to hear what's going on in the school this year from a student," Reda said. "All the students on the council and in this school have so many great ideas and are doing so many amazing things for this community, they deserve to be represented by one of their own."
Mefford is a member of the National Honor Society. She's enrolled in four Advanced Placement classes and is a pianist.
Rede spoke highly of Mefford and her dedication and service to others. Rede needed tickets made for a recent event at the school and asked Mefford to help make them. Mefford came in the next day with handmade tickets that we "just beautiful," Rede said.
"That's what she does. She goes above and beyond what's required," Reda said. "She is so dedicated to what she does and to the students."
