The Broadway actress and Kinnelon native debuted her Melania Trump impression on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" Tuesday.
KINNELON, N.J. — Stephen Colbert gave "Melania Trump" her first opportunity to explain the controversy surrounding accusations that she plagiarized parts of her speech at the Republican National Convention from Michelle Obama's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Tony Award-winning actress Laura Benanti did her best impression of Trump's third wife as she mugged for the camera, inserted dramatic pauses, and quoted from "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air."
"I did not plagiarize my speech last night. I would never do such a thing," she said. "I could not, would not with a goat. I would not, could not on a boat. That is because I learned honest during my humble upbringing in West Philadelphia, born and raised, and on the playground where I spent most of my days."
