Woman Punches Riverdale Officer During Stop, Spits on Driver: Police

RIVERDALE, N.J.– During a traffic stop Saturday, a woman punched a Riverdale police officer and spit in the face of the individual driving her, authorities said.
Shortly before noon, Officer Travis Roemmele and Sgt. Greg Bogert received a 911 call that a passenger in a silver Honda Accord traveling southbound on Rt. 23 was threatening the driver, Lt. James MacIntosh said in a news release.
The officers observed a syringe hanging out the pants pocket of the rear passenger, according to MacIntosh.

The man, Enrique Ayala, 30, of Haskell, had several wax folds – marked "Megaman" and "Versace" on him, MacIntosh said.
Police also found a wax fold marked "protocol" containing suspected heroin, according to the lieutenant.

The female passenger was found to have several outstanding warrants, police said.
She threw dirty clothes out the window at Bogert and, while being arrested, punched Roemmele, MacIntosh said.
She spit in the driver's face before being placed in the patrol car, MacIntosh said.
NJ.com reported that the woman has hepatitis.
Both Ayala and the female, whose name police did not disclose, suffered from heroin withdrawals while at headquarters, the lieutenant said, and were transferred to Chilton Hospital.
The woman was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, domestic violence and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to MacIntosh.
The lieutenant said Ayala was charged with CDS possession, possession of hypodermic needles and paraphernalia.
The woman and Ayala were ordered held on $15,000 bail in the Morris County Correctional Facility, MacIntosh said.
