Iconic restaurant opened for the season Tuesday

It's not the absence of snow, new buds on the trees or even the first sighting of a Robin in a back yard somewhere that says spring is in the air in Wall Township.

It's the onion rings.

The Circus Drive-In, that Route 35 mainstay, put its tent flaps up on its 59th season Tuesday.

Owner Richard Rose said he's a little apprehensive about the coming season, but hopeful that the summertime crowds will continue to support the Jersey Shore.

"I'm sure Sandy is going to have some kind of impact,'' Rose said. "But I just don't know how much.''

The restaurant plans to have three classic car cruise nights and two Clown Nights, where a trio of clowns will entertain children.

It is spring, Wall Township. It is spring.
