Local Paramedic Helps Win Regional Emergency Competition

A Monmouth/Ocean Health Services paramedic recently was part of a winning medical team competing for a regional life-saving competition, MONOC officials said.

Wendy Wright, a MONOC paramedic, competed on a team of emergency department medical professionals from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center at the 2013 New York/New Jersey Regional SimWARS championship, MONOC officials said in a release.

The competition challenges medical professionals in interdisciplinary teams in simulated patient scenarios and was held in New York at the Center for Learning and Innovation at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the release says.

Each team’s performance was reviewed by an expert panel examining the areas of teamwork, communication, and clinical decision making. Then, the audience voted on the winner of each case using an audience response system based on their direct observation of the panel’s input.

“We couldn’t be prouder here at MONOC,’’ Vince Robbins, president and CEO of the Megill Road health services company, said in the release. “This win just reinforces that the hard work and dedication our staff puts forth to achieve clinical excellence is not only evident to our patients but to others in healthcare.”
