Wall police said the man, who was found by a custodian shortly after 6 a.m., appeared to be intoxicated.

WALL, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a man was found sleeping in a boiler room at West Belmar Elementary School on Thursday, Wall school officials said.
Wall Township Police identified the man as William Ramsey, 31, of Middleburg, Florida.
Ramsey kicked in the locked exterior door the boiler room at the school overnight, said Lisa Gleason, director of curriculum and instruction, who is leading the district while Superintendent Cheryl Dyer is out on medical leave.

Police said Ramsey appeared to be intoxicated when they were called to the school, on 17th Avenue, at 6:12 a.m., but was cooperative. He was arrested without incident before students arrived at school.
He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief, police said.

The door to the boiler room has been secured and surveillance video is being reviewed, she said. Police said the remainder of the school was found to be intact and secure.
"At no time did the suspect gain entry into any other area of the building and there was no threat to students or staff," Gleason said in a post on the district's website.
