Man Charged With DWI In Route 138 Crash In Wall

WALL, NJ — A Belmar man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash that shut down Route 138 on Wednesday morning, police said.

Michael J. Spivak, 29, of Belmar, was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was transported to Monmouth County Correctional Institution.

On Wednesday at 8:28 a.m., the Wall Township Police Department responded to the intersection of State Highway 138 and Allenwood Road for a report of a motor vehicle collision with an overturned vehicle.

Spivak was driving a 2019 Hyundai Kona west on Route 138 approaching Allenwood Road and ran a red traffic signal, left the road and hit the traffic light stanchion, overturned and collided with a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 45-year-old Brick Township man.

The intersection of Route 138 and Allenwood Road was closed for about an hour and a half while the traffic light was repaired. No injuries were reported.

Wall Township Police EMS, New Jersey Department of Transportation and Glendola Fire Department all responded to the scene and assisted. The collision is being investigated by Sgt. Andrew Baldino and Patrolman Kevin Wagner.
