Parkway's Monmouth Service Area Closed For Construction
The nine-month construction project will replace the service center building that is more than 50 years old, the NJTA said.

WALL, NJ — Travelers accustomed to stopping at the Monmouth Service Area on the Garden State Parkway in Wall to use the bathroom or fill up on gas will need to find other options starting Saturday, Sept. 8, as the 60-year-old service area building will be torn shut down and a new facility built.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority said the existing service building at milepost 100 on the Parkway has been in place since the mid-1950s, shortly after the Parkway opened, and is in poor condition. The new building will total 138,300 square feet and cost between $10 million and $15 million.
Plans call for the new Monmouth facility to include Shake Shack, Chick-fil-A, Auntie Anne's, Starbucks, and Z Mart.

The commuter parking lots will remain accessible during the construction and turnpike officials said Academy Bus is scheduled to continue to provide service from the site.
The construction is expected to be completed in late May 2019, ideally in time for Memorial Day, the turnpike authority said. The work is being done at no cost to taxpayers or toll payers under agreements announced last year with HMS Host and Sunoco, which have the contracts to operate the food service and gasoline facilities.

The Forked River service area, near milepost 76, and the Cheesequake Service Area, near milepost 124, both will remain options for motorists during the construction.
HMS Host agreed to replace eight service areas on the Turnpike and Garden State Parkway and remodel six others under the agreement announced last year. Sunoco is upgrading its fuel facilities and convenience stores at 21 Turnpike and Parkway service areas, the turnpike authority said.
The Thomas Edison service area on the New Jersey Turnpike is closing Saturday as well for construction of a new service building at that site.
