Route 34 Partially Reopens After Storm In Wall

WALL, NJ — Repair crews are making progress on the utility poles and traffic lights brought down by winds along Route 34: Wall police say the northbound lanes have reopened to traffic on Saturday.

The southbound lanes of Route 34 remained closed to traffic from Belmar Boulevard to West Hurley Pond Road as of 1 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

The state Department of Transportation said 16 utility poles and two traffic signals were brought down by the storm, and the asphalt on the road damaged, requiring milling and paving to repair it.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service's Mount Holly office said straight-line winds were the cause of the damage that prompted authorities to close the highway in both directions on Friday.
