Wall High School Hosts Socially Distant Graduation

After a period of uncertainty surrounding graduation, Wall seniors celebrated their final moments of high school at a ceremony on July 9.

WALL, NJ – During a quiet sunset ceremony on Thursday afternoon, Wall High School seniors celebrated four years of accomplishments as they ushered in graduation – six feet apart, of course.

As “Pomp And Circumstance” echoed through the field, seniors clad in red and white gowns walked triumphantly to their socially-distant seating arrangements. Barlow’s Garden Center of Sea Girt donated dozens of white flowers and tall red-potted ferns to help decorate the backdrop of the stage, complimented by a sign in red-and-blue lettering: “Congratulations Wall High School Graduates”, it read.

The festivities began with principal Rosaleen A. Sirchio’s opening introduction, which noted the exceptional strength and perseverance that the graduating class has endured through extraordinary circumstances due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Class of 2020 has done exceptionally well, and I am excited to recognize and celebrate your achievements,” said Sirchio. “Graduates, as you progress through life, you will come across situations that require you to be courageous. Certainly over these past three months, all of you have demonstrated the ability to persevere. To trust your inner strength, depend on the love and support of your family and meet life’s challenges with courage and integrity. You have been a pillar strength for those persevering through their own challenges, and you have always demonstrated care and concern for your fellow community members.”

Senior class advisor Jessica Erbe awarded diplomas to the graduating class. The subsequent tassel ceremony was led by class president Montana Dobrovich-Fago. “We worked hard to get to where we are, and deserve the celebration and pivotal moment as a class,” said Dobrovich-Fago. “This year tested our perseverance – however, here we are, taking our last steps across this stage [and] accepting our diplomas.”

Dobrovich-Fago, an avid member of the high school’s Wall TV, bid farewell to the class as she usually does on her program:

“To the class of 2020, that’s all I have for today. I’m Monty – remember to always make it a great day to be a Knight.”
