Wall Nurse Celebrated As National Nurses Week Kicks Off

Joanna Jacobs has been a nurse at Sunnyside Manor in Wall for close to 40 years this October.

WALL—In honor of National Nurses Week, which starts on May 6, Sunnyside Manor, located in Wall, wanted to honor their LPN, Joanna Jacobs, how has been a member of the staff for close to 37 years.

Jacobs, who started at Sunnyside back in October of 1984 at the age of 18, while getting her nursing degree from Brookdale, and since 1998, Sunnyside has been her home, where she helps with the care of its residents.

For Jacobs, the best part about the job is seeing the residents, and she feels that she has built a connection with them.

“I love the residents,” Jacobs said in a press release. “As a nurse, I connect more with the geriatric population. I always had a special connection to the elderly. Even as a kid, I felt that I got along better [with them] than with people my own age. I’m fascinated by their lives.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has made new challenges for those either residing or working in an assisted living community. However, Jacobs has impressed with how she has been able to adapt and still be able to provide the best care to her residents.

“When I joined Sunnyside, I was impressed by the staff's compassion, and Joanna exemplifies our culture. She treats our residents like family, and it shows by how happy they are. We are so grateful and proud of her dedication and compassion to Sunnyside Manor,” John F. Keane, Jr., Vice President of Sunnyside Manor, said about Jacobs.
