The Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter (AAGNJ), the leading volunteer-driven voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, advocacy and research is spotlighting people who make a difference in the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia especially in April – National Volunteers Month. Today we say thank you to J. Daniel Chavarria, a volunteer community educator who is leading Alzheimer's Association education programs through virtual platforms to community audiences.

“He has done an amazing job to make a difference in New Jersey. He is flexible, dependable, and has very quickly become a leader that stands out among volunteers. He quickly became proficient with the educational programs he presents, and was eager to help others master the technology and virtual platform in the midst of a pandemic. We appreciate J. Daniel Chavarria volunteering with our organization and the vital role he plays in supporting New Jerseyans living with Alzheimer’s and their care partners,” said Nicolette Vasco, program coordinator, AAGNJ.

J. Daniel explains, “I chose to volunteer because there is still a lot of work to be done. The best way we can fight Alzheimer’s and other dementia, aside from raising funds for research, is by increasing awareness. I started my fight in college, where I organized events to raise money for the Judy Fund, the largest and fastest growing family fund at the Alzheimer’s Association. Through these fundraisers, I became more aware of just how much of a difference an individual can make. Today, I am a Community Educator with the Greater New Jersey Chapter. It has been a pleasure to deliver programs to our surrounding communities for almost a year now. Every program we provide gets us one-step closer to achieving our vision: A world without Alzheimer’s and other dementia. No matter your age, you can help us accomplish this goal.”
