Former NJ State Teacher Of The Year From Wayne Dies At 94

Myrtle Withers, 94, taught kindergarten in Wayne for 50 years.

WAYNE, NJ — Myrtle Withers, a former township teacher who was named the New Jersey State Teacher of the Year, died Thursday.

She was 94.

Withers, formerly of Wayne, taught kindergarten in town for 50 years.

Withers was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She was an alumnus of Newark State Teachers College and earned two master degrees from New York University.

Withers had a "wonderful outlook on life and her cheerful demeanor and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who loved her," her obituary states.

She is survived by her sister, Doris Greendyke, three nephews, and several great- and great-great grand nieces and nephews.
