Legendary Wayne Football Coach Fred Keil Dead At 83, Report Says

Keil, a lifelong Wayne resident, coached for more than 30 years at DePaul Catholic, Wayne Valley, West Essex, and Machester high schools.

WAYNE, NJ - Legendary Wayne Valley and DePaul Catholic high school football coach Fred Keil died Monday. He was 83.

His coaching career spanned 32-years at four North Jersey schools. It began at Wayne Valley in 1956. He was an assistant there until 1959, NorthJersey.com reported.

He took over as head football coach at DePaul Catholic High School in 1960 and was there until 1973. He returned to Wayne Valley in 1983. He won state sectional championships in 1984 and 1988, according to the report.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian, son Eric, daughter Phyliss, and grandchildren, Erica, Carlin, Drew, and Jill, the report said.
