Mayor Vergano: Wayne Whole Foods 'Opening Soon'

"I know, it's only been five years," Vergano said, sarcastically, before hinting at a September opening for the grocery chain.

WAYNE, NJ — Mayor Christopher Vergano hinted at a September opening for Whole Foods in the township during a Saturday news conference.

"I know it's only been five years," he said, sarcastically.

In reality, the construction of the store on Valley Road was announced by Vergano in April 2018, according to a Patch report.

Now, he said, Wayne Township residents should be able to buy Halloween candy at the grocery chain, meaning the now years long project is nearing completition.

A Whole Foods spokesperson confirmed with Patch only that the store in Wayne was in development, but didn't offer an opening date, or any additional information.

Regardless, Vergano takes the progress he's been informed of as a positive moment for a township, like much of the rest of the country, that should currently take all that they can get.
