Memorial Service For Slain Ex-Wayne Firefighter Is Sunday

Florida Police Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller was shot in the line of duty last month and died a week later.

WAYNE, NJ — A memorial service is Sunday for a former township firefighter and Florida police officer who was killed in the line of duty.

Friends may visit with Adam Jobbers-Miller's family from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. A repast for family and friends will follow the service at P.O.L. Fire Co. 2, where Jobbers-Miller served the community as a young man before becoming a police officer in Fort Myers, Florida in 2015. Jobbers-Miller was a Wayne Valley High School alumnus. His father is a former chief and life member of Co. 2 and his sister, Nicole, is a long-time member of the Wayne First Aid Squad.

Jobbers-Miller was shot by Winser Desmaret, 29, during a foot pursuit in Fort Myers July 21, police said. He was in critical condition in a Florida hospital for a week before he died. Desmaret was wanted for allegedly stealing a cell phone from a group of kids.

"Adam had a knack for helping others," Fort Myers Police Chief Derrick Diggs said at Jobbers-Miller's funeral service. "He showed signs of a promising future in law enforcement. Adam touched many lives during his short time with us and for that we will forever be grateful."
