Wayne Residents Wait For Power To Be Restored After Severe Storm

More than 2,500 residents reported outages on Tuesday evening. Restoration times varied, and some will have to wait until Wednesday.

WAYNE, NJ — More than 2,500 Wayne Township residents are without power as as severe thunderstorms pass through the area, bringing damaging winds, lightning, thunder and heavy rain.

PSE&G reports 2,255 residents without power, while Jersey Central Power & Light reports another 631 facing an outage. For those 600-plus customers, the company estimates their power could be back on as early as 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. For PSE&G customers, however, they may not have their power back until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

In total, PSE&G reports 5,952 Passaic County residents without power, Orange & Rockland reports 337 without power, and JCP&L reports 4,772.

PSE&G said the company is working "safely & as quickly as possible to restore power.

NJ Transit was also forced to work to keep things on schedule, as downed trees in multiple areas caused delays and stoppages, including near Paterson.

These residents make up just a portion of those without power across the state, as Patch reports that over 80,000 are without power. For most, they can expect to have it restored sometime Wednesday morning.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 90. South wind around 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. High near 81. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Friday Night: A chance of thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
