WAYNE, NJ – A Morris County woman wants to make your closet a little cleaner and your next shopping trip a little greener.

This summer, Ina Braun has been making the rounds at local farmer's markets, where she offers to repurpose unwanted t-shirts into reusable tote bags for free.

Braun, who calls herself the "Bagtivist" hopes her simple, clever craft will help reduce people's reliance on plastic bags and regularly sets up shop at farmer's markets in Madison, Denville, West Milford, West Orange and Wayne.

The Jefferson Township resident recently told News 12 NJ that she sought to do “something tangible” when it came to plastic pollution and hopes there will be a booth at every farmer's market one day that has someone making t-shirt bags.

Braun told the media outlet her dream is "no more plastic bags."

While there is legislation to ban plastic bags pending at the state level, there’s no known time frame for when it could advance, which has prompted several communities to implement measures aimed at reducing and eliminating carryout bags.

More than a dozen towns, including Glen Rock, Maplewood, Hoboken and Jersey City, have either banned plastic bags or placed fees on them.

You can catch Braun this week in River Vale on Thursday, in Wayne on Saturday, and in Denville in Sunday.
