Nor'easter Snowfall Totals In Wayne, Passaic County

The National Weather Service in New York has released the first snowfall totals from the storm hitting the area, with more expected.

WAYNE, NJ — The National Weather Service's New York, NY office has released initial snowfall totals Monday, but projections indicate that the storm is far from over.

The NWS reports 7 inches of snow in Wayne as of 1:50 p.m.

Here are the early totals in Passaic County:

  • Bloomingdale — 15.7 in.
  • Totowa — 13.1 in.
  • West Milford — 12.3 in.
  • Wayne — 7 in.
  • Little Falls — 5.6 in.
  • Hawthorne — 5 in.

The NWS is forecasting heavy snow, with totals potentially reaching 14-22 inches bringing "near blizzard conditions" to much of the tri-state area.

Strong winds are also expected, which the NWS said could down tree limbs or power lines.

Travel could be "difficult to impossible" during the storm, and officials from across the region are urging residents to stay off the road. Gov. Phil Murphy has suspended trains and buses, and imposed highway restrictions.

The weather has also impacted school schedules in Wayne. Officials canceled virtual classes Monday, citing "extreme weather conditions."

No decision has been made as of Monday morning regarding class on Tuesday.

Snow is expected to continue into Tuesday. Here's the forecast:

Tuesday

Light snow likely. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 28. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Tuesday Night

A 50 percent chance of light snow before 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 26. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. North wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
