Passaic River Is At Flood Stage

The river is forecast to crest at 20.2 feet.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — The Passaic River is already at flood stage and is forecast to rise even higher in the next few days.

The river was at 19.4 feet Sunday at 2 p.m., which is slightly above minor flood stage. The river is forecast to crest Tuesday afternoon at 20.2 feet. "Moderate" flood stage for the river at the point is 20 feet.

Little Falls first responders used a front-loader to rescue flood victims Saturday night. Wayne firefighters evacuated people ahead of the heavy rain that fell.

There is a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., the National Weather Service is forecasting. More than half an inch of rain could fall. More rain could fall after 10 p.m.
