New Jersey had an unusually bad day on Saturday as flash flooding caused all sorts of problems throughout the state, and a school bus crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike. More of the same bad weather could be on the way, according to forecasters.
The school bus crashed left 42 injured in East Brunswick. Cars, meanwhile, were floating in what appeared to be an overflowing river in Wayne and Little Falls. Streets in small towns and cities were more than knee-deep in water. Lightning struck a house in Edison.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms could happen after 1 p.m. across the state on Sunday as a hazardous weather outlook and a coastal flood advisory have been issued. High tide on the New Jersey oceanfront could be especially troubling when it occurs between 9 and 10 p.m. (see forecast below).

East Brunswick
A school bus crash on the New Jersey Turnpike left 42 people injured on Saturday, including both adults and children who were returning from a picnic, police said.
Parts of the turnpike were shut down at the East Brunswick accident site as the bus passengers were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The bus, which flipped at mile-marker 79.9 around 5:25 p.m. on the northbound side, was returning to Newark after a day at the Mayor's Family Reunion Picnic in Black Bear Lake Camp in Millstone, according to city officials. Read more here...

Dozens of people were displaced from their homes after a retaining wall collapsed in Fairview, according to News12. The wall smashed the backyards of three homes.
Heavy rain and a damaged drain pipe caused water to back up and flood the area, according to News12. The water then ended up moving to the Fairview Gardens apartment complex, where the retaining wall behind it collapsed.

An Edison home was sustained significant damage when it was struck by lightning Saturday morning, fire officials said.
The 5 Sarah Court home was struck around 7:20 a.m. during a heavy thunderstorm, Edison Fire Capt. Andy Toth said. The family left the home after smelling smoke upstairs, and all were uninjured. Read more here...
