Severe Thunderstorms May Bring Hail, 75 MPH Winds To Northern NJ

The National Weather Service says strong winds and hail are possible as the storm is expected to hit the area between 5 and 9 p.m. Thursday.

NEW JERSEY — As Hurricane Laura moves inward, another storm is brewing in the Tri-State area.

Beginning around 5 p.m. in northeast New Jersey, the National Weather Service says severe thunderstorms could produce hail up to 2 inches in size and 75 mph winds.

To put the cherry on top of the 2020 sundae, isolated tornadoes and flash flooding are also possible.

The storm, according to the NWS, could hit the area anytime between 5 and 9 p.m., and local officials are already asking residents to take precautions.

Ridgewood's Office of Emergency Management shared a weather update through their Facebook page, and asked resident to charge their devices and avoid unnecessary travel.

PSE&G also issued a statement to customers on Twitter, stating that company representatives are closely monitoring the weather system.

"We understand the importance of power, particularly during#COVID19. We encourage all customers to contact us immediately should they have an outage," they said.

In Wayne, tonight's Music at the Mansion event has been postponed due to the impending storms. It has been rescheduled for next Thursday, Sept. 3.
