Watch: Responders Use Front-Loader To Rescue Flood Victims

More heavy rain could fall in North Jersey Sunday afternoon and the Passaic River is forecast to flood.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Police and emergency responders rescued residents in Little Falls as floodwaters rose Saturday as torrential rain covered North Jersey Saturday — and more could fall Sunday afternoon.

Little Falls first responders used a front-loader to rescue flood victims Saturday night. Wayne firefighters evacuated people ahead of the heavy rain that fell.

The Passaic River at Pine Brook is at flood stage. Minor flood stage at that part of the river is 19 feet. The river is forecast to crest at 20.2 feet, which is "moderate flood stage."

The Marine Division of the Wayne Fire Department helped rescue people in Little Falls. ABC7 in New York tweeeted out a picture Sunday of personnel in floodwater in a residential neighborhood.

Police and fire personnel were rescuing a trapped dog on the rocks at the Great Falls in Paterson Sunday.

Paterson Police could not be reached for comment.

Wayne Police could not be reached for comment.

There is a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., the National Weather Service is forecasting. More than half an inch of rain could fall. More rain could fall after 10 p.m.
