This story was updated Friday, March 26.

WAYNE, NJ — New Jersey has been expanding the number of publicly listed COVID-19 vaccination sites, and a number of locations have been identified in the Wayne area and elsewhere.

Some are accepting appointments directly, but some are not. But the state has suggested reaching out to those sites and seeing if getting an appointment is possible (see the area’s list of vaccine sites below).

Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said the state plans to increase the number of vaccination sites beyond 300. State officials have said the goal is to vaccinate 70 percent of the adult population by the spring.

As of Thursday, 3.7 million New Jerseyans have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine and 1.3 million of the state's 9 million people are fully vaccinated. Read more: Where To Get The Coronavirus Vaccine In New Jersey

Gov. Phil Murphy announced that New Jersey has created a county-by-county vaccine hub that reports the number of immunizations across the state.

"We're working strategically and efficiently to vaccinate our frontline health care workers, law enforcement and fire professionals and long-term care center residents and staff," he said.

Wayne officials took it upon themselves to reserve some slots at the Macy's vaccine clinic for teachers this week.

Mayor Christopher Vergano said Monday that the township is allocating 100 doses for Board of Education employees at the township's vaccination site, located in the Preakness Shopping Center. As of Monday, 135 Board of Education employees have requested the vaccine, Vergano said. Read more: Wayne Township Reserves Vaccine Doses For School Staff, Teachers

Health officials said not all sites are publicly listed because some are not open to the public, such as prisons and psychiatric hospitals.

Persichilli said New Jersey currently doesn't have a lot of vaccine availability, but she expects that to change soon. The Biden presidential administration has said that it plans to greatly expand the number of vaccine doses available to the American public.

Her hope is to continue to expand the number of "mega-sites" in convention centers and large spaces, aiming for 1,000 people vaccinated a day.

Gov. Phil Murphy, speaking at CHEMED Health Center in Ocean County, said recent developments should bode well for the flow of vaccines coming into New Jersey.

Murphy said recently that he anticipates to see moderate increases in doses to begin arriving to the state and to locations like Ocean County over the next few weeks. Murphy said that the supply of vaccinations will "explode" by early April.
